Kent Child Support Lawyer
Ohio law sees child support as the legal obligation of a child’s parent. My clients often see child support as a difficulty to overcome, and I take every effort available to help manage what is ahead.
My name is Amanda Lewis, and I’m the lead attorney of Paoloni & Lewis. I’ve spent 17 years working with families in Kent seeking the right child support outcome for their families after a divorce. These are complex cases, and while a calculator takes many of the decisive factors out of your hands, there is still a lot to do to secure the right deal.
How Is Child Support Calculated In Ohio?
Under Ohio law, child support is set by a statutory calculator that examines the financial resources of both parents. This review includes:
- The full income of both parents
- The financial resources of both parents, including extended family financial support
- The assets possessed by both parents, as well as any assets they can utilize
- The property division agreement from a divorce, if applicable
- The debts and existing prior financial obligations of both parents
Additionally, how information is entered into the calculator is up to debate before the court, as what is and is not eligible for the calculator can change based on unique factors for each family.
Modifications As Life Changes
Once the discussions are over and the calculator determines the payments and support levels the work still is not over. As circumstances change for you and your children, the financial needs for your child may grow or lessen, but the support agreement will not change without action.
I help my clients review their situations and take action to get the right support levels throughout their children’s lives.
